The Blue Mountains is looking to gain recognition for youth.
Youth Advisor Joanna Garland is heading up the application so the town can be named a Youth Friendly Community.
The initiative is through Play Works – Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program 2009.
Garland says the application asks that 16 criteria is met – some being that youth is active and comfortable in their community.
Garland says the recognition has three tiers – gold – silver and bronze – depending on how much criteria is met.
She adds there are many youth initiatives in the town that will help in gaining recognition – such as youth friendly business program and a youth council.
Residents can help with information to be used in the application.
Garland asks that anyone with brochures or letters showing support to youth being active in the community can send them in.
Garland also asks anyone who works with youth in the area and is having a positive experience to contact her.
Deadline for information is October – but Garland asks you gather your information as soon as possible – as the application process is lengthy.
If interested in sending in information you can email Garland at jgarland@thebluemountains.ca or call her at 519-599-3131 extension 279
