The Owen Sound Police Service will be audited later this fall by the Ontario Ministry of Public Safety and Security.
Chief Tom Kaye calls it a routine procedure by the province and the Owen Sound Police Service is due.
He notes the last audit of City police was done five years ago.
City police have already been notified that the audit will focus on four specific areas — traffic management plans, the care and handling of prisoners, the business planning process, and the use of force.
The audit is scheduled to take place in November.
In the weeks leading up to the audit, police will work to ensure all required documentation is complete and ready to be presented to the auditors upon request.
Kaye says a liaison officer has been assigned to head up the local approach to the audit.
He adds this is all a necessary process to ensure the police service is doing the best possible job for the city.
