The Owen Sound campus of Georgian College is pretty well “bursting at the seams” this fall.
Associate Dean, Donna Jansen says first year enrolment is up 48 percent from the level last year.
At the same time, Jansen says retention of second year students is up about 15 percent.
She says the boom in the student population has created some new problems at Georgian College, such as parking issues and classroom space.
Jansen says classes are now scheduled from 8 AM to 6 or 7 PM and they have hired some new teachers as well.
Georgian College in Owen Sound has some 600 first year students enroled this year, and about 16 hundred part time students.
Jansen says the huge increase was the biggest of the seven campuses run by Georigan College.
She says if they experience any jump in enrolment like this next fall (2010), they would have to look at an expansion of the Owen Sound campus.
