Hanover wants to utilize new technology to reduce the amount of sludge its waste water treatment plant creates
The town plans to take on a pilot project that will utilize a GEO Tube system.
The new technology utilizes chemicals that will dewater the sludge into a more solid form.
Director of Public Works Ron Cooper says this dewatering process promises a reduction in the hauling and spreading of the sludge by 50 percent.
He says this is not only benefit the environment but it will also cut Hanovers sludge haulage and spread costs in half.
Currently Hanovers treated sludge is in liquid form and must be trucked out of town to be spread on agricultural land.
The Geo Tube system is not a new idea to the region.
The system has already been successfully implemented at the Chesley Water Pollution Control Plant.
