Good news and bad news when it comes to building activity in Kincardine for the month of August.
Building and Planning Manager Michele Barr says 24 permits were issued during the month, bringing the total so far this year to 177.
In August 2008, 26 permits were issued, topping out the year to date total at 249.
Barr says construction values are down by half so far this year, compared to 2008.
14.3 million dollars in new construction has taken place as of the end of August, while the value was 28.9 million for the same period last year.
However, Barr says wind turbines were still being constructed during the summer of 2008 in Kincardine that would have drove construction values up, and those projects are now finished.
Other local municipalities, including South Bruce and Huron-Kinloss are starting to experience an increase in building activity as the year enters its final months, and Barr says the same thing could happen in Kincardine.
She says some subdivision developers are back, indicating they may move forward with their projects, and a couple other developers that are ready to build since lots recently opened up for construction.
Barr says the type of building activity taking place so far this year is an even mix of residential homes, renovations, and agricultural buildings.
