Everything is almost back to normal at Grey Bruce Health Services after a very eventful summer.
In the most recent incident, Patients who had to be evacuated from the Markdale hospital after a fire at Chapmans Ice Cream.
Two units at the Owen Sound hospital — which were closed because of a fire in July have been re-opened.
The reconstruction of five rooms damaged in that fire area almost complete.
President and CEO Maureen Solecki says they used the Incident Management System to help senior staff members respond to each crisis.
The Incident Management System was also instituted in the case of a VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci) bacterial outbreak, which coincidentally had hit Unit 4-1 prior to the fire.
The outbreak is now over and did not spread even though patients in 4-1 had to be moved to other parts of the hospital due to the fire.
Solecki says it was interesting for staff to work in different areas of the building and for staff normally in those other areas to deal with patients like young children and even newborns.
