A Hanover resident has been honoured by the town.
Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter Robyn Garvey tells us the town has named its Senior of the Year.
Gary Rahn says the recognition came as a shock to him.
But when you consider his long years of service — it shouldn’t.
Rahn has spent over 40 years of his life serving the community in many capacities, including his time on Hanover planning and advisory committees, the cemetery board, as well as his involvement with his own church.
Rahn calls his time on Hanovers planning committee the most satisfying.
He says over the last several decades he has witnessed the town bloom into a booming regional service centre.
Rahn says it was during his early days on the planning committee when all of the furniture factories were closing down in town that Hanover decided to become a service centre.
He says Hanovers ever expanding east end is a testimony of those earlier years of planning saying Hanover really is the place to be.
Rahn encourages young people to follow suit and become involved in their community.
He says you can always find the time.
His wife Carol is also heavily involved with volunteer and community work, Rahn says the team approach works well.
Rahn isnt resting on his laurels just yet — he is still heavily involved with Hanovers committee of adjustment committee as well as the Lutheran church.
