A shoreline clean up project is taking place this afternoon along Walkertons Saugeen river.
Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter Robyn Garvey tells us everyone is welcome to pitch in..
Organizer Kelly Reid says today’s event is all part of the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean Up Project.
All garbage collected will be weighed and catalogued the data will than be sent to Vancouver where it will be compiled with all of the other data coming in from across the country.
The clean up will begin at 1:30 PM behind Tim Hortons and finish at Lobbys Park.
This is volunteer driven, and everyone is welcome to help out.
Gloves and bags will be provided.
Reid says many may be surprised by what they find along the shoreline. The litter ranges from pop cans and paper garbage to needles and syringes.
She says this garbage not only impacts the natural beauty of the river but it also hurts the wildlife.
Reid encourages residents to become a part of the shoreline clean up project, saying its up to everyone to help keep the Saugeen clean and pristine.
She notes Walkerton has already had one water tragedy, it doesn’t need another.
