Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis’ husband is maintaining his innocence.
In an e-mail to the Edmonton Journal, 37 year old Rahim Jaffer says he intends to fight the serious accusations that have been made against him.
He goes on to say in the statement that he is innocent and confident of full exoneration.
Jaffer adds he cannot express how grateful he is for the support of his family and friends and he asks the public and media to respect their privacy as he works to clear his name.
The Former Alberta Conservative MP was arrested just after midnight last Thursday by the OPP in Palgrave, north of Toronto.
He is charged with drunk driving and possession of cocaine.
