The 98 the Beach Chantry Chinook Classic Fishing Derby has finished this year in the black.
Committee member Bob Greason says they will soon present a cheque for over 10 thousand dollars to the Lake Huron Fishing Club to use in their conservation efforts.
Greason says despite the limited fishing weather during the 15-day event this year, some good catches with average increases in weight and length were noted.
He says they had around 13 hundred participants fishing for thousands of dollars worth of prizes.
Greason says they don’t have an official tally on the economic benefit the derby has in Bruce County but some have estimated it at one-million-dollars.
He says in a couple of weeks a new committee will be named for the 2010 event and work will begin all over again.
