The preparations are set in Wiarton for the visit of movie and singing legend Petula Clark.
She will be at the Peninsula Shores Performing Arts Centre tonight to talk about the movie ” I Know Where I’m Going ” — which is making its repeat premiere.
Petula Clark was only 13 years old when she starred in the film — which made its North American debut 63 years ago in Tobermory.
And the Wiarton event will mark the special occasion.
Clark tells Bayshore Broadcasting News she didn’t even know Tobermory, Ontario existed until recently.
But Clark says she loves coming to Canada and she thinks that has to do with the Canadian soldiers who were based in England during the Second World War.
Clark says she didn’t know much about the movie and was only a contract actress at the time — she would just show up on set and find out then about her script.
But Clark says she enjoyed playing the snobby character in the movie.
Clark remembers the cast was very good and she feels their good work rubbed off on her and helped her career.
Petula Clark is also well know for her 1960’s pop hits ” Downtown ” and ” Don’t Sleep in the Subway “
Clark says she will not only talk about the movie when she hits the stage in Wiarton tonight — but also about her singing career.
In fact — Clark jokes she has no dark secrets and she will answer any questions.
Clark is now working on a new DVD of love songs called “Open Your Heart.”
The doors open at 6:30 PM tonight in Wiarton.
Tickets are 20 dollars and the money raised will benefit “Miracle Place” — the Peninsula’s first affordable rental apartment project in Wiarton.
The project is expected to be complete in February 2010.
