It appears Steven Harper’s minority government will dodge an election bullet on Friday.
N-D-P MP Thomas Mulcair says his party will support the government until it passes legislation giving long-tenured workers extended Employment Insurance benefits.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller says that all but puts the brakes on a fall election — as long as E-I legislation is still in play.
Miller says the NDP decision also means a Liberal non-confidence motion expected in the first week of October will likely fail.
The local MP says there is a lot of stuff in the ways and means motion being voted on Friday, that is critical.
The Home renovation credit and changes to E.I are both included in the bill before the House.
MP Larry Miller says we are not out of the woods yet, and there will be more confidence votes in Ottawa, but at least we will get thru this week without a fall election being forced on Canadians.
He tells Bayshore Broadcasting news, despite all the bluster the Liberals don’t want an election anymore than anyone else.
Miller adds there is a lot of public pressure against another election.
