With all the hospital de-amalgamation talk in Kincardine, the Hanover and District Hospital board is happy with its decision to stand alone.
CEO Katrina Wilson says Hanover’s stand alone hospital is working because it’s not stand alone.
Wilson notes the Hanover Hospital may be an independent corporation but it has many health care partners and utilizes technology to ensure it is networked with neighbouring hospitals.
Wilson says the secret to the hospital’s success is the fact that it has been so proactive through partnerships and contracts that it has become very efficient.
Hospital Board Chair Allan Fisher says the hospital is doing very well as an independent corporation and he doesn’t see any reason to change.
The South West LHIN has asked the Hanover hospital board to come up with contingency plan outlining how it will deal with a deficit to ensure such a scenario will not impact neighbouring hospitals.
Wilson says this will not be a problem, because the hospital has been so financially sound she says it can manage any projected deficit internally.
