A mid week fair makes the Arran Tara Fair stand out from the crowd.
The annual event started Saturday night with the Fair Ambassador competition the but the main events happen today and tomorrow .
Fair Secretary Florence Beere says one of the popular events happens tonight with the lawnmower races at the community centre.
Tuesday night also marks the opening of the home craft displays and exhibits.
Admission for that evening is 5 dollars – elementary school students are free.
Tomorrow is the official fair day with gates opening at 8 AM, the horse show is at 10 AM and there is also the poultry show and 4-H shows, to name a few.
School in the town closes tomorrow as the students take part in a parade starting at 11:45 AM.
Wednesday evening there is horse racing with a new ladies drivers category this year.
Admission Wednesday is 7 dollars – elementary students still free.
Beere says the fair is a true community event with the average attendance around two thousand people.
All events happen at the fairgrounds and community centre in Tara.
