If you’ve got a business idea, this competition is for you.
The Meaford and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting their very own Dragon’s Den event, based on the popular CBC television show.
Chamber Manager Jamie Pettit says it’s a perfect way to promote Meaford and will benefit the local business climate.
He says it’s also perfect timing, as the municipality is working on an Economic Development Strategy.
Pettit says applications are open to anyone with an idea, whether it’s something you’ve jotted down on a napkin or something you’ve been working on for years.
He says the only stipulation is that the business will be set up in Meaford.
A total of seven applications, with one spot reserved for Georgian Bay Secondary School student, will make it through to present their ideas to five Meaford dragons.
Each dragon has committed to investing at least one thousand dollars in their favourite business proposal and Pettit says it’s up to them if they want to go higher.
Pettit says other prizes include a mentoring package from the Business Enterprise Centre in Owen Sound.
Pettit says this is the first local edition of the Dragon’s Den show done in Canada, and the exposure for Meaford is going to be great.
Applications can be picked up at the Chamber office or online and must be submitted by September 15th.
The finalists will then make their pitches to the dragons on October 21st at Meaford Hall – you can buy tickets for 5 dollars to attend and cheer on your favourite.
The Meaford dragons are Chamber Board Member Barbara Kay, Todd Campbell from RBA Financial, Muxlow Pharmacy co-owner Chris Davies, Coffin Ridge Vineyard and Winery co-owner Dr. Neil Lamont, and Rotary Club of Meaford President Paul Astbury.
