Theres been a zoning bylaw change in the former Sydenham Township.
It will help smooth the way for turning a farm into a demonstration site for sustainable agriculture and living.
Meaford Council enthusiastically approved the change after a public meeting last month.
The 100-acre property had been zoned rural and hazard, and is now zoned rural site specific and hazard.
A report by municipal director of planning and building services Robert Armstrong says the property owners want to construct a new, environmentally conscious farm building which will serve as an office and as an orientation and educational space.
It would have a washroom and a bedroom for the purpose of housing farm help and guests on a temporary but ongoing basis.
This will assist in the expansion of tillable acreage on the farm.
Armstrong’s report says between 2.5 and 7 acres have been utilized in recent years.
The owners also want to use the educational space to, as the report says, share their learnings in relation to sustainable living and agricultural practice.
Council has indicated a desire to assist in the promotion of the importance of agriculture in the community.
Staff received positive comments about the plan from the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, Grey County, the Grey Bruce Health Unit and other agencies, as well as neighbours of the property in question.
