Some Wasaga Beach students will soon be a lot safer.
The Federal government is giving almost 744 thousand dollars to put sidewalks along the Worsley Elementary School property to 40th Street and Mosley.
Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis made the announcement outside the school on Thursday.
Guergis says the federsl government is paying the entire cost from the Community Adjustment Fund under the new Economic Action Plan to help communities hardest hit by the recession.
Engineering firm, Ainley Group, says 40th Street will also be widened to allow the school buses more room to line up along the side of the road to drop off and pick up the kids.
Sewers and curbs will also be put in and Ainley expects tenders for construction to go out right away with construction starting just after Thanksgiving and to be done in November before the winter weather hits.
Guergis says this project is important because it’s all about the safety of our children.
The town made application for funding after the Community Policing Committee brought their concerns forward.
Guergis has also announced 1.5 million dollars to extend sewer and water services to the proposed Eden Oak industrial subdivision on the Sixth Line in Collingwood.
Guergis says these projects are two of 90 the government will be announcing to a total of 102 million dollars.
