How about some good news for Markdale residents.
Grey Highlands has received government grant money to make upgrades to the arena and community hall.
Mayor Brian Mullin says they’ll split the 675 thousand dollar project with the federal and provincial governments.
He says an elevator will be installed in the second storey community hall as well as an upgrade to the kitchen.
The arena will see renovations to the entrance to make it accessible.
Mullin says they’ll also be upgrading some of the equipment and the heating system to make it more energy efficient.
He says with the facilities being more than 30 years old, the work was a priority for the municipality.
Under the terms of the government grant the work must be completed by March of 2011.
Mullin says construction will likely get underway sometime next year.
