One local MP is gracing the pages of a Canadian fashion magazine issue.
Helena Guergis, who represents Simcoe Grey, has been named one of the top 30 most influential young Canadian women in the October issue of Flare.
It’s the magazine’s 30th anniversary issue.
Guergis is the only politician named in the article.
The Conservative MP says she is humbled to be included in the list with the likes of actresses Anna Paquin and Ellen Page, TV host Leah Miller and athlete Melissa Hollingsworth.
The 40 year old Guergis says she believes she was approached by the magazine because of her work as the Minister for the Status of Women in helping vulnerable women reach their potential.
The article also touches on Guergis’ beauty pageant days.
She was named Miss Huronia in the early nineties and says she made some great friends during those days.
Guergis says she’s bought one copy of the magazine herself, but she’s sure her mom has a few more.
