You may remember the international plowing match held last year in our area in Teeswater – now the Bruce County Plowing Match is recreating a mini version.
The plowing match is happening tomorrow near Chepstow at the farm of Pat Murray.
One of the main organizers – Cheryl Leifso – says the event is not just for farmers and rural families – but has something of interest for everyone.
Leifso says the main focus though is still the plowing competitions with categories of antique, horse, tractor, 4-H and reversible.
The 4-H club will also be plowing – learning from more seasoned farmers.
The plowing gets underway around 10 AM.
Leifso says another main feature is the Queen of the Furrow competition featuring four local girls vying for the title – the winner to be announced at 3:30 PM.
Local food will be headlined at the popular beef barbeque lunch starting at noon.
The menu includes all local fare – from Bruce County beef to locally grown potatoes.
Tickets are very popular and can be purchased in advance by contacting any plowing match member.
Leifso says attendance for the lunch alone is usually 300 or more.
Another fun event is the media challenge where you can watch local media get behind a tractor.
Bayshore Broadcasting’s own Stephanie Lowe won the media challenge last year.
Local politicians and VIPs will be behind the machines around 2 PM.
Leifso also adds the event has farm machinery dealers throughout – allowing you to even try out the tractor before purchasing.
The event can be found on Greenock sideroad 5 – one and a half concessions north of highway 9 at the corner of Greenock – watch for signs.
Leifso was a main organizer for the International Plowing Match last year – saying the volunteer base for all Bruce County plowing matches is always strong.
