Kincardine is taking up an offer made by Bruce Power.
The Tiverton-based energy producer is pledging 500 thousand dollars over 2 years to help Kincardine and Saugeen Shores in their efforts to recruit doctors.
Representatives from the two municipalities were at a meeting on Monday with President and C-E-O Duncan Hawthorne.
Kincardine Council gave their blessing to the proposal at last nights meeting.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says the generous offer made by Bruce Power should broaden the scope of their doctor recruitment.
He says the two municipalities along with other communities are having problems in trying to deal with the doctor shortage in their areas.
He says Kincardine alone needs 6 or 7 doctors to take care of the orphan patients in his municipality.
Kraemer says Bruce Power knows that having local doctors is key to recruiting skilled workers to the nuclear generating station.
He says they are providing the kind of funding that would definitely help in their efforts.
But Kraemer says the funding is contingent on setting up a separate committee that will operate parallel with the other doctor recruitment committees.
He says any efforts to recruit doctors from this new committee must be complimentary to the current recruiting efforts.
He says he has heard from doctors that they fully support the effort made by Bruce Power.
