The road to a new subdivision in Owen Sound wont be a smooth one.
About 50 people showed up for a public meeting last night regarding the proposed subdivision in the west end of the city.
Many expressed concerns about possible increased traffic and environmental impacts of the development.
Thom Construction plans 60 single detached homes for the 23-acre site which is
intended to connect two neighbouring subdivisions, one to the north and one to the south.
A proposed extension of two separate stretches of 6th Avenue West is a sore point with neighbours.
They’re particularly concerned about the roads connection to 4th Street ‘A’ West, a narrow, winding thoroughfare that’s currently a dead end but which will become an outlet for traffic.
Others are concerned with the loss of natural areas which are home to wildlife and plants.
Director of Community Services, Pam Coulter says she expects the issue to return to council for further deliberation sometime in October.
Jason Thom of Thom Construction says they’re taking neighbours concerns seriously and will address them.
He’s hoping servicing work can begin this winter.
