The Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board is welcoming tougher new provincial accessibility standards that will soon be coming into place.
Colton says this is the business the school board is in — they take all people wherever they are and want to ensure their needs are met.
As part of the new standards — all School Board staff must receive new training.
Colton admits this will be a challenge given the diverse geographic nature of the Board.
But Colton looks at it as a learning opportunity to ensure schools are as accessible as possible.
She says this goes well beyond physical barriers and now includes attitudes and perceptions.
Colton says accessibility has and will remain an ongoing issue and priority for the school board.
This includes taking accessibility into account in all school board purchases on new equipment, new systems and when planning new initiatives.
