Construction will begin soon on the new retaining wall by Fairy Lake in Southampton.
Saugeen Shores Council has awarded a contract of over 48 thousand dollars to locally-based Shoreline Stone and Garden Centre for the job.
The new wall will be made out of limestone blocks from the Bruce Peninsula.
The water level in the lake will be lowered by one and a half feet so crews can build the wall more easily.
Councillor Victoria Serda says when the water level is low, it’s a good opportunity to remove some of the garbage that accumulates in the lake, affecting the ecosystem.
Serda says animals sometimes get caught in garbage and can drown or choke, and it also makes the area less attractive for tourists.
She says with a one and half foot drop in the water level, it will give lots of space for cleanup work to take place while the new retaining wall is being built.
