Bruce Power is safer and as a result the United Way of Bruce Grey is richer and some special kids are ready for school.
It’s a chain reaction that is unfolding today on several fronts.
The president and CEO of Bruce Power Duncan Hawthorne reports they’ve reached a major milestone, having reached 15-million-hours without an acute lost time injury on site in Tiverton.
Besides celebrating with the workers at Bruce Friday, the company has decided to celebrate the good news by donating 15 thousand dollars to the United Way’s current backpack program.
The program is going to send some 17-hundred children off the school with new supplies that they couldn’t otherwise afford.
Hawthorne says he heard about the plight of the United Way falling short of supplying all the kids, on Bayshore Broadcasting Newscasts and decided Bruce Power should help out.
United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says she was up most of Thursday night trying to figure out a way to service all the requests they received this year.
But with requests up and donations down, the numbers wouldn’t add up until Bruce Power’s donation came along.
Now all requests will be filled and a lot of kids will be going back to school well prepared.
