There is a lot of talk about parking in Collingwood these days — and not the romantic kind at Sunset Point.
The town and the BIA are now looking over recommendations from a study on parking on the main street that might see a lot more windshields with tickets.
Currently, drivers have two hours of free parking on Hurontario and other streets in downtown Collingwood.
Sue Nicholson, General Manager of the BIA, says with the two-hour window, there can be abuse of the system, and in some cases, workers at downtown businesses use the spaces, rather than leaving them for customers.
The study recommends among other things, bringing back paid parking on the main street, but perhaps offering the two hours free in the town-owned lots on Pine and Saint Marie streets.
It also recommends the town enter into talks with the owners of the lot of the ‘price chopper’ store off Saint Marie street, to see if it can become a municipal lot.
Collingwood town council is expected to decide whether to change the rules about parking at a meeting in September.
