Patients going to hospitals in Listowel and Wingham will no longer need to take their X-rays with them when they go to a specialist.
The CEO of the The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance Margaret Comack says the organization has joined the South Western Ontario Diagnostic Imaging Network.
Comack says when patients have tests, the images are downloaded to a server and are accessible to doctors and technicians in other areas.
Comack says doctors will be able to consult with a specialist without the patient having to leave the hospital.
Comack says this is the first network of it’s kind in North America and was started in 2004. Listowel and Wingham Hospitals Alliance finished integrating about a month ago.
By August 2011 more than 60 hospitals in the four Local Health Integration Networks will be connected.
