Owen Sound isn’t any closer to taking possession of its harbour from the federal government.
It may also be no closer to having the waterway dredged, but the idea is at least on Transport Canadas radar.
Transport Canada has approached the city seeking input on the disposal of sediment that would be taken out of the harbour should dredging take place.
Director of operations John Johnston and environmental superintendent Chris Hughes have considered a number of city-owned sites where material could be deposited after being removed from the harbour.
Possibilities include a piece of property near the Kiwanis Soccer Complex and an area near the compost site.
Theres no guarantee that the dredging will even happen.
But Councillor Bill Twaddle, the chair of the environmental and waste advisory committee, says its positive to to realize the project is at least being considered by Transport Canada.
