It was a record breaking Summerfolk weekend.
The Georgian Bay Folk Society is reporting a record attendance as the 34th annual music and crafts festival closed last night with a tribute to Stan Rogers.
Brenda Scott — the President of the Folk Society — says the initial numbers show 15 thousand people attended the three day event.
That is a jump of 20 per cent as the last few Summerfolk’s drew about 12 thousand people.
Scott says the food vendors and artisans also reported record business — in fact, some vendors ran out of food yesterday.
Scott says they also received strong feedback from the audience about the performers and the wide variety of music.
Scott says they also added a more dance elements to the festival that turned into a big hit.
She says many people came from across Canada to see their dance stage and they will continue to expand that area next year.
Scott says the planning has started on next year’s Summerfolk — which would be the 35th anniversary — and she hints there will be a touch of nostalgia.
Scott says one of the highlights of the festival is to see people of all ages — from babies to elderly residents.
People from as far away as Michigan, Connecticut and even the United Kingdom attended Summerfolk.
There was also some emotion on stage last night as local band Tanglefoot performed for the last time at Summerfolk.
Member Steve Ritchie says performing on the amphitheatre stage is magical because Summerfolk is such a prestigious event.
Ritchie admits he had a lump in his throat walking off the stage.
Tanglefoot will play its last performance together in December.
