Police are investigating a break in at the Heritage Place Mall in Owen Sound.
Owen Sound Police say just before 9 AM Sunday, mall security discovered two ATMs had been broken into sometime overnight.
Police say while the machines are very difficult to break into, the suspects were successful.
Police are still ascertaining the total amount stolen, but it is in the thousands of dollars.
Two stores within the mall were also forcibly entered and their cash boxes broken into.
Police say it looks like the thieves then forced open an exterior door leading to the rear parking lot.
Police say the mall is a very secure building once it is closed to the public for the evening and locked.
No point of entry was found, which leads investigators to believe that the culprits may have hid within the mall until all patrons and staff had left for the night.
Due to the extensive area in the mall affected by the crime, mall management in consultation with police closed the shopping centre to the public in order to preserve the crime scene and its evidence.
The Owen Sound Police Identification Unit attended the scene and spent several hours collecting and examining evidence.
The ATMs are not owned and operated by the mall but an independent company.
If anyone has any information with regards to this crime they are asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
