The annual AMO conference — Association of Municipalities of Ontario — is kicking off Sunday and runs thru Wednesday in Ottawa.
It’s a chance for area municipalities to get some one-on-one time with Provincial Ministers, where they can raise issues and concerns that affect local taxpayers.
Owen Sound has four councillors going this year — Arlene Wright, Bill Twaddle, Jim McManaman and David Adair.
Arelen Wright is going as Owen Sound councillor, and Grey County representative.
Wright tells Bayshore Broadcasting news there are meetings arranged with 4 Ministers early next week, where she and the other councillors will press the province to act.
One meeting involves the Minister of health promotion and Wright says they will be pushing to get the province to re-instate money for the “Youth Action Alliance” program.
It was being funded by Queens Park, but that money has dried up and Wright says city council agreed to take up the issue with the provincial government.
A big issue that is expected to be discussed in general meetings at AMO, and in one-on-one meetings is the Harmonized sales tax and what that will mean for local taxpayers.
Arelene Wright also has a list of municipalities that hired the architectural firm that Owen Sound is using on the new Regional Rec Centre.
She wants their feedback on how well their projects went.
