The Bruce Grey Catholic School board is helping primary kids with their reading this summer.
The Board is holding literacy camps in the region this week and next week.
The camps are for students in grades one through four.
They are at Holy Family in Hanover, St Joseph’s in Port Elgin, Mother Theresa in Walkerton and Notre Dame School in Owen Sound.
This is the third year for the camps that run Monday to Friday 9 o-clock til noon.
Superintendent of Education – Cathy Montreuil says the camps were held in July in the past – but the feedback from teachers and parents was to move the camp to August.
The moved was sparked by hopes that literacy camps would boost the children’s
learning lag in summer.
Some of the Board’s teachers will be instructing the fun camp style classes that will help boost children’s reading and writing.
Montreuil is looking for 180 to 200 children to attend this year – those are the numbers from years past.
If you are interested in having your kids attend the camps – Montreuil says to just show up at one of the schools – and if they have room you can register them.
The cost is 30-dollars per student with most of the funding coming from the Ontario Literacy and Secretarial Numeral.
