The dream of being on a box of cereal – is about to become reality for a Port Elgin man.
Wheelchair racer Josh Cassidy is among 32 olympic and paralympic athletes chosen to appear on Cheerios boxes, as part of a “Support out athletes campaign”.
The 24 year old Cassidy applied through General Mills to become one of the featured athletes and says he was lucky enough to be chosen.
He receives five thousand dollars from the breakfast cereal company for being chosen.
He also gets a dollar each time someone registers a barcode online in his name, up to a maximum of 25 thousand dollars from General Mills.
He says every little bit helps, as his sport is not cheap to take part in.
Annually, Cassidy is looking at costs close to 40 thousand dollars for travel, equipment and repairs.
Cassidy has a long list of accomplishments, including having competed in the Beijing Paralympics in the distance wheelchair races and has had top results in both Canadian and international races.
