A Collingwood man upset about recent government funding given to a local private school is getting some support.
Lorne Kenney has started circulating an online petition and after just a couple of days, has 26 signatures.
But Kenney says he’s also had people come up to him on the street telling him they are as outraged as he is.
The provincial and federal governments gave half a million dollars to the Pretty River Academy to fix up its soccer pitches.
Kenney says there’s no way taxpayer money should have been given to a private school.
Other applications from Collingwood including one to put a roof over the outdoor skating rink were turned down.
Kenney will be sending the petition to Prime Minister Harper and Premier McGuinty.
He says he expects this issue to become a political sore spot because this doesn’t just affect people in this area, it’s taxpayer money so it affects all Canadians.
