The Children’s Aid Society of Grey County is still in desperate need of foster homes for teens.
Manager of Foster Care, Alison Holmes says they have fewer families willing to consider fostering older children.
She says the inherent problem with teens is, ofcourse, they always want to push the boundaries of authority.
Holmes also says sometimes they come with drug or truancy problems and its a lot for a family to take on.
She says right now..all of their teenagers have been placed but its sometimes a case where its not an optimal situation.
Holmes says ideally the foster parents for teens should have a lot of patience, a good sense of humour and a realistic sense of what teens are like.
She says the process for becoming a foster parent is fairly lengthy and can take up to three months before all the back ground checks are complete.
The CAS is also looking for aboriginal families to take in local First Nation’s children as well as families willing to be home to siblings to avoid separating them.
