The Hanover and District Hospital wants to be sure it’s ready for any type of crisis.
The Hospital is creating a ‘Surge Capacity Management Plan’ that outlines how it will cope with spikes in the demand for critical care services over short periods of time.
Vice President of Patient Care Services Reta Sproule says the Hospital is in the early development stages of this plan.
She says there are three levels — a minor surge that can be dealt with internally, a moderate surge that will involve the assistance of other hospitals and LHIN’s, and a major surge that will be require province wide management.
Sproule says the goal of this project is to ensure that the Hanover and District Hospital is not only ready for a crisis, but that its emergency plan is standardized with that of the province.
She admits it is a big undertaking but says in the end it will better equip the Hanover and District Hospital with the tools it needs in the event of crisis.
The Surge Capacity Management Plan has been mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
