Music of a different strain will be issuing from the Funny Farm outside Meaford this weekend.
The 4th Annual Electric Eclectic Festival got underway Friday and continues to Sunday on the property just off Grey Road 12.
Assistant Director Chris Worden says 25 acts from all over the world will be performing.
Worden says the bill is all-encompassing, with the acts experimenting in avant garde music or within their own genres.
Worden says most of the music is of an acquired taste, but also says this year the programming has broadened its appeal.
He says a highlight of the weekend is Holy ‘F’, an electronic post modern dance group who is one of the biggest indie bands in Canada right now.
Worden says while the festival brings in groups from across Canada and around the world, including the US, Italy, Austria, Germany, and Romania – it also does a lot for local bands.
He says Sunday night is an almost exclusively local bill that promotes bands from the Grey Bruce area and gives them a chance to play music people might not expect is being created here.
Worden says having artists from around the globe on the bill also means international fans travel into Meaford, some from as far away as Costa Rica and Germany.
When it comes to location, Worden says the Funny Farm is very conducive to an excellent festival experience.
He says the views and sunsets are beautiful, while the large property also provides ample room for camping – and for those that choose, hotels in Meaford are close.
Tickets are available at the gates and include camping – they are 65 dollars for the weekend, or 35 dollars for a day pass, while tickets for Sunday’s local bill are two for one for area residents.
Worden says they’re expecting at least 15-hundred people to attend the festival.
