A big weekend, for a small town.
The Tiverton Old Boys and Girls Reunion runs Friday through to Monday, as the town celebrates its 130th birthday.
Events run all weekend long beginning with the opening of the Reunion Gardens at 4pm Friday.
Opening ceremonies take place at the Tiverton Community Centre from 7 PM to 9 PM and closing ceremonies begin at 4:30 PM on the holiday Monday.
Kincardine Municipal Councillor Randy Roppel is chair of the ad-hoc reunion committee and says there is something for everyone all weekend long.
Among highlights of the event, the reunion parade on Saturday at Noon and fireworks at dusk at the ball diamonds Sunday.
There are many events for the kids too, from inflatable to a petting zoo and entertainment.
Roppel says there are three dances during the weekend, a beef supper on Friday night, and a fish fry.
Roppel says the reunion wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated volunteers and municipal staff that have put time into organizing it.
He says it shows small-town Ontario spirit is alive and well.
For months, the fate of the reunion was unknown because of controversy based around what kind of beer to serve.
Hometown brewery Steelback, was shut out, in part, because it does not offer canned beer, which the reunion committee wanted to go with.
At one point, members quit the committee, and came back after things calmed down.
