History keeps being made in Tiverton at the Bruce Power Nuclear Generating Station.
The nuclear generating station has shut down a reactor again at the request of the Independent Electricity Market Operator – because it has too much power – and not enough demand.
Unit 7 was taken off line early yesterday morning due to a surplus of baseload generation in Ontario.
A release indicates it will be off line for a brief time.
Officials won’t give an official time frame – because the information – being of commericial nature – can be traded.
Before this year, the company had never taken a reactor off line for these reasons; that being said, this is the third time this year, and since June.
All of the other active units at Bruce Power remain online and available for service.
Taking the unit off line does NOT affect workers, shifts or anyone using electricity in the region.
