The province has finally approved the plans for a new medical clinic in Walkerton.
The green light from the Ministry of Health arrived Thursday after the initial plans started in 2007.
Brockton Mayor Charlie Bagnato says the news is fantastic because residents will finally be able to see why they donated money.
The community has raised 1.7 million dollars for the new clinic.
Bagnato is confident they will be able to raise the final 300 thousand needed to reach their two million dollar goal.
The medical clinic that will house the Brockton and Area Family Health Team will be built as an addition to the Walkerton hospital.
It will be in the same location as the old nurses residence which was demolished last summer.
The entire cost of the project is estimated at 3.5 million dollars.
Bagnato says the clinic will be a state of the art facility that will help attract new doctors and health professionals to Brockton.
In fact, a new family physician is moving to Brockton in September.
Bagnato notes the current staff will also enjoy their new home since they are crammed in their current location.
He expects the tendering process will begin within the next two weeks.
