The Saugeen, Grey-Sauble, and Northern Bruce Peninsula Drinking Water Source Protection Committee is sticking to its intentions.
The committee met in Point Clark last Friday and passed a motion regarding the terms of reference it will operate under.
Huron-Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan served as Acting Committee Chair for the meeting.
He says the Ministry of the Environment sent back the terms of reference and took out reference to compensation for property owners that could be excessively affected by Source Water regulations.
Twolan says they’ve re-submitted the document, using different terminology, and they’re still waiting to find out if it will be accepted.
Properties located within the area it takes drinking water to reach its source over a two year period could be affected.
As an example, Twolan says if a business involved with activities potentially hazardous to drinking water is located within a two-year time of travel area, they could experience extra financial hardship because of the regulations.
Twolan says the motion is a show of support for the new wording they’ve submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and they plan to stick with their terms of reference.
