The Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound has a new face.
Virginia Eichhorn has been hired as the new Director and Curator.
Eichhorn has an impressive resume that includes curator of public museums, commercial galleries, an independent creating exhibits that tour the country as well as past work with creating environmental exhibits.
She is moving with her husband and three sons to Owen Sound.
She is leaving her current post as the curator of the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo.
Eichhorn recently was awarded a provincial curatorial excellence award.
She has past experience with the Tom as she has put together exhibits and written a few articles for the Gallery.
When the job came open – Eichhorn had no hesitation to submit her name.
Eichhorn says the gallery is not only important to Grey Bruce but has national significance as Tom Thomson has helped shape the future of many contemporary artists.
Her main goal is to show how Thomson’s work and vision has helped so many contemporary artists – and how the gallery is so unique on a provincial and national scale.
Eichhorn’s first day on the job is September 8th.
