It has been a challenging week for the Owen Sound hospital.
As you’ve heard on Bayshore Broadcasting News — staff at the hospital have been working to re open unit 4-1 after a bacteria was discovered earlier this month in some patients.
Over the weekend — that same unit was hit by a small fire which is still under investigation.
It was quickly contained by the sprinkler system and no one was hurt.
And late last week — a male nurse at the hospital was charged with sexually assaulting a patient.
Grey Bruce Health Services President and CEO Maureen Solecki admits its been challenging.
She says the fire on top of the bacteria precautions has added to the struggle of re opening Unit 4-1 and they don’t expect to resume patient care for at least another week.
She says they’ve also had to move some patients out of the unit below because of water damage when the sprinklers went off.
As for the charges of sexual assault against an unidentified male nurse — Solecki says hospital officials are shocked and deeply distressed by the allegations and are co operating fully with authorities.
She says they’ve got a zero tolerance policy on this type of situation and the nurse has been suspended until the outcome of the investigation.
