Veterans are being celebrated today in Meaford.
Meaford was chosen as one of 8 Ontario sites for Veteran Appreciation Day.
The ceremony takes place at 10 AM at the Cenotaph at the Meaford Hall.
The ceremony will include local Veterans as well as politicians including Meaford Deputy Mayor Michael Trayner, MP Larry Miller and MPP Bill Murdoch.
The celebration is a joint venture between the Ontario government and the Dominion Institute.
Director of the Dominion Institution Jeremy Diamond says this day allows all of us to focus on war veterans more than just on Remembrance day.
Meaford was chosen because Diamond says for a small town they have shown a lot of interest in Veteran Appreciation.
Diamond says there is a sense of urgency to celebrate veterans as there is an aging veteran population as well as soldiers having just returned from their tour.
Diamond is hoping this celebration will bring another opportunity for veterans to share their experiences with the public.
