Plans to expand the Hanover Walkerton Landfill site have hit a small snag.
The environmental assessment process — which was suppose to be wrapped up by now — has been delayed by a month as the landfill undergoes 23 thousand dollars worth of additional air quality testing.
The extra air quality monitoring has been ordered by the Ministry of Environment.
Hanover Councillor Peter Hambly expects the results of the extra testing to be in by the end of August.
The environmental assessment will than be submitted to the province in September and a 26 week review process will begin.
The entire process should wrap up in February in which the province will render a decision regarding the proposed landfill expansion project.
Hambly says the delay is disappointing but they have to play by the province’s rules.
In all, the Environmental Assessment process has been a costly one — totalling close to 1 million dollars.
