For the second year in a row, West Grey councillor Don Marshall has tried to set an example for other councillors.
He has decided to donate his pay increase and mileage claims to local community groups.
Marshall says over the last few years their pay has jumped about 60 per cent but he feels it is a volunteer position.
The West Grey councillor asked for groups to apply for funding and he received 7 applications.
Along with sending out money to those groups, Marshall donated 500 dollars each to local sports organizations, soccer, baseball and hockey.
In total, Marshall gave away about 55 hundred dollars of his salary and mileage money earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the pay for West Grey council has increased over the last two years to just under 200 thousand dollars.
Mayor Kevin Eccles was paid some 36 thousand dollars, while the pay varied for the other members of council.
