Signs are clearly posted and the message is clear.
Dogs are not allowed on the beaches of Port Elgin and Southampton.
Owners risk getting a 125 dollar fine.
Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett says now with a full time bylaw enforcement officer on staff, beaches are being checked more regularly.
Rivett says beaches from Eits Grove in the south up to the south end of the Port Elgin pier.
Then north from Concession 10 to the south side of Southampton.
Rivett also points out the bylaw is in effect from May 1st to October 1st.
He says keeping dogs off the beach is a health issue.
Rivett says last year, they were basically just warning people about the infraction and with some it worked.
He says with some it didn’t and it appears they need that extra nudge of a 125 dollar ticket.
