A Neighbour to the Wiarton-Keppel International Airport, Jim Jensen is not happy with the outcome of Big Music Fest.
Jensen voiced his concerns at Wednesday’s council meeting saying safety was a huge issue that was not addressed appropriately.
He says both him and his wife felt like they were in danger because of the amount of drunk and disorderly people.
Jensen says there was not sufficient transportation so people started walking and many were going right through his property.
He says many people were urinating all over his property, leaving behind garbage and a group of people also damaged his electrical fence.
Jensen also mentioned he did not think there were enough OPP officers and security guards on site.
Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Airport Board Dwight Burley believes Jensen’s comments are valid – but adds the concert was a learning experience for everyone.
Burley says the airport board recently met with OPP and many positive things came from it.
He says there was not one major accident or incidence reported, only a few minor ones.
Burley says he deliberately went around to all the ratepayers who live close by to collect feedback – and 99 per cent of the comments were very positive.
Once information is collected by all parties involved, a report on the entire event will be documented.
More than 15 thousand people attended Big Music Fest on June 27th to see The Spades, The Arkells, Sam Roberts Band and The Tragically Hip.
The airfield is the proposed location of Big Music Fest for the next nine years.
