Strong demand provincewide has led to Bruce County getting less money then it expected for repairs to social housing facilities.
Housing Services Manager Susan Earle says they thought they would be receiving 15 to 20 million dollars to repair its various social housing units.
But every municipal housing authority in the province started applying for the money and their demands were higher than the total amount allocated by the government.
704 million dollars was committed by the province for the Social Housing Renovation and Retrofit Program.
Earle says the government changed how the money would be allocated and Bruce is now receiving about 1.7 million dollars over two years.
The County plans to do an updated building condition audit on its facilities to decide what the needs are.
And, the county is increasing the purchasing policy limit for consulting services on capital work planned for housing facilities.
The usual limit is five thousand dollars, but the increase was needed in order to speed up the planning and completion of the projects.
Instead of seeking three separate quotes, the county would like to seek a single one instead.
Earle says they have a time limit for when provincial grant money has to be spent, and the change will ensure they meet that target.
She says they plan to have projects underway using two separate allocations of funding in 2010 and 2011.
