A boater in distress in Nottawasaga Bay has been rescued by the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the OPP.
The detachment operates a full time Marine Unit and was called in when a boater reported his craft was taking on water in the Nottawasaga Bay area.
Both the OPP and the Cape Providence, a Coast Guard cutter based in Meaford, came to the aid of the boater Tuesday around 9 AM.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP and the Coast Guard initially had difficulty locating the boater, but after a short time, the stranded vessel was located and safely towed to a marina for repairs.
The boaters name and home town were not released.
OPP constable Peter Lemon says fortunately the boater stayed calm during his ordeal.
He also reminds all boaters to have a fully charged cell phone as a back up to a marine radio system.
Boaters are also encouraged to always wear personal floatation devices when on the water and to expect the unexpected.
